About Me 

Dr. Javier is an Associate Professor of Health System Science at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM). In this position, Dr. Javier conducts research in Health Systems Science, mentors students, and teaches community and population health and other subjects in Integrated Sciences.

Prior to her current role at KPSOM, Dr. Javier was a faculty member with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, a preceptor in primary care at a federally qualified community health center, and founded and taught a public health course on addressing health disparities in the U.S. She has served as a mentor to numerous students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty. Dr. Javier’s current leadership roles include Advocacy Lead for the Society for Pediatric Research Executive Council, co-chair of the Society for Pediatric Research Advocacy Committee, member of the Pediatric Policy Council, and an Executive Committee Member on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Council on Community Pediatrics. In recognition of her work, she has received the following honors and awards:  the Local Hero Award from the AAP Council on Community Pediatrics, the Filipina Women’s Network 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World Award, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Award for Health Equity.   She was also nominated by a Curatoria Committee for “Alta- A Human Atlas of a City of Angels”, created by Marcus Lyon in association with the Getty Conservation Institute of Los Angeles, featuring the life stories of 100 changemakers living in Los  Angeles. Alta is a social impact art platform that maps community, using oral histories, portraits, and ancestral DNA, inspiring the next generation of change.

 

Dr. Javier holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an MD from the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. She also has an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Science in Clinical, Biomedical, and Translational Investigations from the University of Southern California. She completed her pediatric residency and a general academic pediatrics fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine.
